Lake House (ANCL) Vacancy 2026 – Head of Legal

The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL), widely known as Lake House, is the heart of print media in Sri Lanka. They are currently seeking a talented and dynamic individual to fill the high-level vacancy of Head of Legal to lead their legal department and provide strategic guidance.

Job Role: Head of Legal

The Head of Legal will act as the principal point of liaison for legal interests, overseeing litigation, managing intellectual property, and providing authoritative guidance to management on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

• Master's Degree in Law (LL.M) or related field with 3 years' post-qualifying experience as a practicing attorney and as a Head of Legal/Chief Legal Officer.
• OR Bachelor's Degree in Laws (LLB) with 7 years' post-qualifying experience as a practicing attorney, including 3 years in a similar capacity.
• OR Relevant professional membership (Bar Association) with 7 years' post-qualifying experience (3 years as Head of Legal).
• OR Professional membership with 10 years' post-qualifying experience as a practicing attorney.
• Must be: An Attorney-at-Law and Notary Public with authority to function in Sinhala and English.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice on corporate, commercial, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead the drafting and vetting of all contracts, agreements, policies, and MOUs.
• Manage all litigation matters including civil, labour, commercial, and regulatory cases.
• Oversee and protect intellectual property assets and brand interests.
• Direct and mentor legal officers and external counsel.
